Principle

DC power source, cathode, anode and electrolyte constitute an electrolytic system. The workpiece acts as the anode, The tool acts as cathode.  A charge exchange takes place between the cathode and the anode in an aqueous electrolyte solution which targets specific areas of the workpiece.

But fromefficiency and economic perspective, it’s more suitable for these workpieces: metallicmaterial after heat treatment, super hard materials (such as nickel-basedsuperalloy), the soft material (like niobium alloy), as well as the processhaving difficulty and high cost in using alternative machining method.
